Space Shuttles Enterprise and Discovery

These photos are from the “Welcome Discovery” event on April 19, 2012 at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. The museum had been exhibiting the prototype Space Shuttle Enterprise, which was used for test flights and was never placed into orbit. After the retirement of the fleet, NASA decided to place Space Shuttle Discovery at the Udvar-Hazy Center for permanent display, sending Enterprise to New York City at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Before being sent off, Enterprise met Discovery on the museum’s taxiway.
